This dramatic perspective from the Mars Global Surveyor looks along the wall of an eroded impact crater on Solis Planum. The crater wall stretches for about 50 kilometers and is around 800 meters high. This region, near Mars's Valles Marineris, shows mountains and fault lines. These features suggest the planet has experienced surface plate motions, similar to plate tectonics on Earth.
