On the Possibility of Ascending to Mars
On October 19, 1899, a young Robert Goddard climbed a cherry tree and imagined a device that could ascend to Mars. This image shows a concept of a Mars Ascent Vehicle, a critical component for future human missions. Goddard's early inspiration eventually led to the development of modern rocketry, making such an ascent possible. His work laid the groundwork for space exploration, fulfilling a dream he first had as a teenager.
