Mountains of Creation
This infrared view from the Spitzer Space Telescope shows the eastern edge of the W5 stellar nursery in Cassiopeia, about 7,000 light-years away. Interstellar clouds of cold gas and dust are sculpted by winds and radiation from a massive star just outside the frame. Spitzer's view reveals newborn stars still within these cosmic clouds, their formation also triggered by the massive star's influence.
