A Robot's Shadow on Asteroid Itokawa
A peculiar spot on asteroid Itokawa is actually the shadow of the Hayabusa spacecraft. The Japanese Hayabusa mission arrived at the asteroid in early September and has been mapping and maneuvering around it. This picture was taken earlier this month. Itokawa is about 300 meters across, and Hayabusa's goals included determining its composition of ice, rock, and trace elements.
