30 Doradus: The Tarantula Zone
The Tarantula Nebula, or 30 Doradus, is a giant emission nebula over 1,000 light-years across within the Large Magellanic Cloud. A central cluster of massive young stars, R136, energizes the nebular glow. Their intense radiation and strong winds have shaped the spidery filaments. This color mosaic was made from images from the Curtis Schmidt telescope.
