Doomed Star Eta Carinae
Eta Carinae is a star about 100 times more massive than our Sun, located in the Keyhole Nebula. It may be about to explode as a supernova, though no one knows when. About 150 years ago, Eta Carinae underwent an unusual outburst that made it one of the brightest stars in the southern sky. It is the only star currently thought to emit natural laser light.
