Phobos: Doomed Moon of Mars
Mars has two small, irregularly shaped moons, Phobos and Deimos, named for Fear and Panic. This stunning color image from the Mars Express spacecraft shows Phobos, the larger moon, as a heavily cratered, asteroid-like object. Scientists believe Phobos is a captured asteroid, slowly spiraling inward, and is doomed to eventually break apart or crash into Mars.
