All the Colors of the Sun
The Sun's light contains nearly every visible color, though it appears brightest in yellow-green. This spectrum, created at the McMath-Pierce Solar Observatory, shows all the visible colors of the Sun. The dark lines in the spectrum are caused by gases at or above the Sun's surface absorbing specific wavelengths of light. This absorption pattern tells us about the chemical composition of the Sun's atmosphere.
