Infrared Andromeda
This Spitzer Space Telescope infrared view of the Andromeda galaxy highlights dust, shown in red, and old stars, in blue. While visible light images show bright young stars defining its spiral arms, the infrared reveals lumpy dust lanes heated by those young stars. Andromeda is the largest nearby galaxy, with twice the diameter of our Milky Way.
