In the Heart of the Tarantula Nebula
The Tarantula Nebula's heart contains huge bubbles of energetic gas, dark dust filaments, and massive stars. At its center is R136, a dense star cluster once thought to be a single star. This cluster, also known as NGC 2070, hosts many hot, young stars. Their intense light ionizes the nebula gas, and their particle winds shape the surrounding material.
