The Tarantula Zone

NASA APOD · John P. Gleason
COSMIC MESSAGE

The Tarantula Nebula, more than 1,000 light-years across, is a giant star-forming region in the Large Magellanic Cloud. This colorful image, taken with narrow-band filters, shows part of the LMC over 2,000 light-years wide. Inside the Tarantula, intense radiation and stellar winds from the R136 star cluster energize the gas.
