Planetary Systems Now Forming in Orion
The Great Nebula in Orion is an immense, nearby starbirth region, visible with the unaided eye. The Hubble Space Telescope took a detailed look to help understand how planets form. Insets to this mosaic show numerous proplyds, which are stellar nurseries likely harboring planetary systems. This nebula is probably the most famous of all astronomical nebulae.
