Cepheus: Trunk to Bubble
Star clusters, glowing nebulae, and dark dust clouds are abundant in Cepheus. This broad skyscape, a mosaic of telescopic images, spans about 17 degrees. At the lower left is the large emission nebula IC 1396, which is hundreds of light-years across and about 3,000 light-years distant. It contains a dark, winding feature known as the Elephant's Trunk.
