Stephan's Quintet
Four galaxies of Stephan's Quintet are caught in a gravitational dance, pulling at each other as they pass. This image from the Hubble Legacy Archive shows how their close encounters distort their shapes, leaving trails of stars and gas. One galaxy in the group, however, is much closer to us and not part of the interaction. The group is about 300 million light-years away.
