In the Arms of M83
M83, the Southern Pinwheel Galaxy, is a spiral galaxy twelve million light-years away in Hydra. This Hubble Legacy Archive mosaic shows dark dust lanes and young blue star clusters in its prominent spiral arms. The galaxy is also known for its numerous reddish star-forming regions, often found near the edges of these dust lanes. M83 offers a detailed look at star formation in a nearby galaxy.
