The Orion Bullets
These 'bullets' are dense, hot gas clouds blasted out from energetic star formation in the Orion Nebula, about 1,500 light-years away. Traveling at hundreds of kilometers per second, they pierce through the nebula's outskirts. This infrared image shows the bullets in blue, glowing with ionized iron, and their yellowish trails are shock-heated hydrogen gas.
