Three Galaxies and a Comet
This nightscape mosaic spans 100 degrees, showing diffuse starlight and dark nebulae along the southern Milky Way. The rugged terrain of Patagonia, Argentina, is in the foreground. The image also features the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds, two irregular satellite galaxies of our own. The scene also captures the broad tail and bright coma of Comet PanSTARRS.
