Comet ISON Rising
Comet ISON is approaching a close encounter with the Sun, set for tomorrow. It will pass within a solar diameter of the Sun's surface. This image shows the comet before that dramatic event. Its fate, whether it will shed ice and dust or break apart, is still unknown. The closer it gets to the Sun, the harder it is for telescopes to see it in the glare.
