An Aurora of Marbles
This grid of embedded swirls and streaks shows the dramatic development of Earth's auroral substorms. The sequence of over 600 fisheye images was taken over a two-hour period in March 2012 from Lapland, northern Sweden. It begins at evening twilight and covers two activity peaks with bright coronae forming overhead. This captures the dynamic nature of the aurora near the Arctic Circle.
