NGC 3293: A Bright Young Star Cluster

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

NGC 3293 is a bright, young open star cluster in the constellation Carina, about 8,000 light-years away. It contains a high abundance of hot, blue stars. Studies suggest these blue stars are around 6 million years old. The cluster's dimmer, redder stars appear to be about 20 million years old, indicating that star formation in this cluster occurred over an extended period.
