M46 Plus Two
M46 is an open star cluster, about 300 million years old, containing hundreds of stars. These young clusters are born near the Milky Way's plane. Over time, galactic tides and gravitational interactions eject members, slowly dispersing the cluster. This cluster, about 5,000 light-years away in Puppis, also contains a planetary nebula, NGC 2438, which is much older than the cluster itself.
