The Sombrero Galaxy in Infrared
The Sombrero Galaxy, a large galaxy in the Virgo Cluster, has a prominent dark dust band that obscures its middle in optical light. In infrared light, this band glows brightly. This image, from the Spitzer Space Telescope, shows the infrared glow in false-color superimposed on an existing image. The floating ring of dust is a significant part of the galaxy's structure.
