The Magnificent Horsehead Nebula
The Horsehead Nebula, a dark cloud of interstellar dust, is sculpted by stellar winds and radiation. This cosmic silhouette is part of the vast Orion cloud complex, about 1,500 light-years away. It is visible because the dark dust is silhouetted against the glowing red emission nebula IC 434. New stars are forming within this five light-year tall cloud.
