Europa and Jupiter from Voyager 1
Voyager 1 captured this image of Jupiter and its moon Europa in 1979. The largest spot, just right of center, is the Great Red Spot, a massive storm that may have been observed for over 350 years. Its red color is still a mystery. Europa, visible toward the lower left, is one of Jupiter's largest moons. Voyager's images supported the hypothesis that Europa has a subsurface ocean, making it a promising place to search for extraterrestrial life.
