This image shows the Milky Way arching over ancient dead trees in Deadvlei, Namibia. The trees died over 500 years ago when shifting sand dunes cut off their water supply. The white clay soil contrasts with the dark, petrified trees. Above, the band of our galaxy stretches across the night sky, a reminder of the vastness of space.
