Cosmic Clouds in the Unicorn
This wide field of view captures interstellar clouds of hydrogen gas and dust in the constellation Monoceros, the Unicorn. At the center is NGC 2264, a star-forming region about 2,700 light years away. It contains reddish emission nebulae, excited by young stars, and dark dust clouds. Some of the dust clouds reflect light from nearby hot stars, appearing blue.
