NGC 3521, a gorgeous spiral galaxy, is about 35 million light-years away in the constellation Leo. Easily visible in small telescopes, it is sometimes overlooked in favor of other Leo spirals. This colorful portrait shows its characteristic patchy, irregular spiral arms laced with dust, pink star-forming regions, and star clusters. The galaxy spans about 50,000 light-years.
