The cosmic elephant's trunk, seen on the left, is over 20 light-years long. This detailed telescopic close-up, with visible stars digitally removed, highlights the bright, swept-back ridges that outline pockets of cool interstellar dust and gas. These dense regions are where new stars are forming.
