COSMIC MESSAGE

The Great Comet of 1997, Hale-Bopp, was bright enough to be seen over city lights. Here it is photographed above Val Parola Pass in the Dolomite mountains. The blue ion tail is made of ionized gas pushed away by the solar wind. The white dust tail is made of larger dust particles.
