Beta Cygni, also known as Albireo, appears as a single bright star to the naked eye. However, a small telescope reveals it as a beautiful double star, a treasure of the night sky. The two component stars, Albireo AB, are about 420 light-years away and mark the foot of the Northern Cross in Cygnus. This telescopic snapshot illustrates their striking color difference, one blue and one gold.
