Young Stars of NGC 346
Massive, young stars in NGC 346 are carving out a cavern in the Small Magellanic Cloud. These stars, only 3 to 5 million years old, are short-lived but energetic. Their winds and radiation sweep away gas and dust, triggering new star formation at the edges of the 200 light-year-wide cavity. This region, known as N66, is 210,000 light-years away.
