COSMIC MESSAGE
LDN 43, the Cosmic Bat Nebula, is a molecular cloud about 1,400 light-years away in Ophiuchus. It is dense enough to block light from background stars and from wisps of gas lit by the nearby reflection nebula LBN 7. This 12-light-year-long filament of gas and dust is a site of active star formation.
