NGC 2442 is a distorted spiral galaxy in the southern constellation of Volans, the flying fish. It is about 50 million light-years away. Its two spiral arms extend from a central bar, giving it a hook shape. The image shows obscuring dust lanes, young blue star clusters, and reddish star-forming regions.
