Webb's First Deep Field
This infrared image is Webb's First Deep Field, released a year ago by the James Webb Space Telescope. It shows thousands of galaxies, some of the most distant ever observed, in the constellation Volans. The six-spiked stars in the foreground are within our own galaxy, their diffraction pattern characteristic of Webb's hexagonal mirror segments.
