Seagull Nebula over Pinnacles' Peak
The Seagull Nebula, named for its avian shape, is a vast emission nebula in the night sky. It spans over 200 light years and is composed mostly of red-glowing hydrogen gas, with some dust lanes where new stars are forming. The head of the nebula is cataloged as IC 2177, and a star cluster, NGC 2343, sits under its right wing. This image shows it dramatically rising above a peak.
