Stars are forming in Lynds Dark Nebula 1251, also known as "The Rotten Fish Nebula." This dusty molecular cloud is about 1,000 light-years away and is part of a complex of dark nebulae in the Cepheus flare region. Astronomical observations of these clouds reveal energetic shocks and outflows from newborn stars, including a reddish glow from molecular hydrogen.
