The Savudrija lighthouse stands along the Istrian peninsula, a navigational aid for sailors. Above it, Polaris, the North Star, forms a short, bright arc around the North Celestial Pole. Polaris, also known as Alpha Ursae Minoris, has guided navigators for far longer than any lighthouse. This night sky image captures both old and new aids to navigation.
