Messier Craters in Stereo
The craters Messier and Messier A on the Moon are named after astronomer Charles Messier. These two large, elongated craters are in the Mare Fecunditatis, the Sea of Fertility. Their unusual shapes are due to the extremely shallow angle of impact of the object that formed them. The bright rays extending from them show how ejecta was distributed across the lunar surface.
