NGC 4650A: Strange Galaxy and Dark Matter
This strangely distorted galaxy, NGC 4650A, sits 165 million light-years away in Centaurus. It has a flat disk of stars with a bright core, and a sharply tilted ring of gas, dust, and stars. The stars and gas in the disk and ring move in two different, nearly perpendicular planes. This is likely the result of a past galactic collision.
