Rubin's First Look: A Sagittarius Skyscape
This wide-field view from the new Vera C. Rubin Observatory spans over four degrees across crowded starfields towards Sagittarius and the Milky Way's center. It captures famous nebulae and star clusters. Among them are Messier 8, the Lagoon Nebula, an expansive star-forming region over a hundred light-years across, and Messier 20, the Trifid Nebula. The Lagoon Nebula sits about 4,000 light-years away.
