The eight bright rays emanating from the center of spiral galaxy NGC 2566 in this infrared image are not real, but diffraction spikes caused by the Webb Space Telescope's mechanical structure. The galaxy's bright center is not unusual, suggesting it contains a supermassive black hole that is currently not very active. NGC 2566 is 76 million light-years away.
