Barred Spiral Galaxy NGC 5335
The Hubble Space Telescope captured this stunning portrait of NGC 5335, a barred spiral galaxy some 170,000 light-years across and over 200 million light-years away in the constellation Virgo. We see it face-on, with loose streamers of star-forming regions along its flocculent spiral arms. Its most striking feature is the prominent central bar, a structure found in about 30 percent of galaxies, including our own Milky Way.
