NGC 253: X-Ray Zoom
Chandra X-ray Observatory observations show that star-forming galaxies like NGC 253 also contain luminous x-ray sources. These sources are thought to be intermediate-mass black holes and immense clouds of superheated gas. NGC 253 is only 8 million light-years away, and its prolific star formation has been well-studied with high-resolution optical images.
