NGC 346, a star-forming region 200 light-years across, is located in the Small Magellanic Cloud. This satellite galaxy of the Milky Way is about 210,000 light-years distant in Tucana. The Hubble Space Telescope image shows embryonic stars strung along the dark dust lanes, revealing how they form.
