Infrared Portrait of the Large Magellanic Cloud
This infrared image of the Large Magellanic Cloud, a satellite galaxy of the Milky Way, shows cosmic dust clouds rippling throughout it. Data from the Herschel Space Observatory and the Spitzer Space Telescope reveal these dust clouds fill the dwarf galaxy, much like those in our own. The temperature of the dust indicates star-forming activity: warmer dust, shown in blue hues, signifies areas where young stars are forming.
