NGC 602 and Beyond
NGC 602 is a young star cluster, only about 5 million years old, located in the Small Magellanic Cloud. This Hubble image, enhanced by Chandra X-ray and Spitzer infrared data, shows the cluster surrounded by gas and dust. Energetic radiation and shock waves from the massive young stars have eroded the dusty material, creating fantastic ridges and swept-back shapes.
