An Unusual Hole in Mars
This Martian landscape shows numerous holes, most revealing dark terrain beneath evaporating carbon dioxide ice. The most unusual hole, about 100 meters across, appears to punch through to a lower level. Why this specific hole exists and why it is surrounded by a circular crater is still a mystery. One hypothesis suggests it was formed by an impact that exposed a subsurface void.
