In 1984, astronaut Bruce McCandless II became the first person to fly untethered in space. Using a Manned Maneuvering Unit, he floated 100 meters from the Space Shuttle Challenger. This historic spacewalk allowed astronauts to perform repairs and retrieve satellites with unprecedented freedom. It was a moment that redefined human mobility beyond our planet.
