Millions of tiny ice crystals, falling through the air, can act like lenses. They refract sunlight, creating luminous arcs and circles. This phenomenon, called a sun halo, appears here over Sweden. It is a fleeting optical display, visible when the Sun is low in the sky and the atmospheric conditions are just right.
