IC 1805: The Heart Nebula
The Heart Nebula, IC 1805, glows brightly in red light from its most prominent element, hydrogen. This large emission nebula gets its energy from a small group of young stars in the open cluster Melotte 15, near its center. These energetic stars erode picturesque dust pillars with their light and winds, shaping the nebula's distinctive heart-like appearance. It sits about 7,500 light-years away in the constellation Cassiopeia.
